Translate business requirements into integration designs using appropriate SAP APIs, IDocs, BAPIs, RFCs, OData, or web services.
Develop interfaces using SAP Integration Suite / Cloud Integration (CPI), PI/PO, REST, SOAP, OData, and related integration technologies.
Configure mappings, transformations, validations, exception handling, retries, and message reprocessing.
Define API contracts, payloads, authentication mechanisms, error codes, and monitoring requirements with external technical teams.
Support interface unit testing, SIT, UAT, cutover, deployment, and post-go-live stabilization.
Troubleshoot issues across SAP application, middleware, network/security, and API layers.

Invoice and payment status information, where applicable
Required Skills & Technical Competencies
SAP & Integration Expertise
6-10+ years of SAP experience with strong hands-on SAP integration expertise.
Strong understanding of SAP ECC and SAP S/4HANA integration architecture and interface patterns.
Hands-on experience with SAP Integration Suite / Cloud Integration (CPI); PI/PO experience is advantageous for hybrid landscapes.
Strong knowledge of REST APIs, SOAP services, OData, IDocs, BAPIs, RFCs, JSON, and XML.
Experience with synchronous and asynchronous interfaces, queues, acknowledgements, retries, and exception handling.
Working knowledge of SAP API security including OAuth 2.0, certificates, Basic Authentication, and API keys.
Ability to identify suitable standard SAP integration objects and determine when custom developments are required.
Functional Knowledge
Good understanding of SAP MM and Procure-to-Pay processes.
Working knowledge of Purchase Requisition, Purchase Order, Supplier, Material, Account Assignment, Goods Receipt, and Invoice processes.
Understanding of SAP FI integration points relevant to procurement, including G/L Accounts, Cost Centers, and Payment/Status information.
Knowledge of SAP Business Partner / CVI concepts in S/4HANA.
Integration Design Expectations
Define source-to-target field mappings and transformation rules between the procurement platform and SAP.
Design reusable interfaces aligned to enterprise integration standards and SAP clean-core principles.
Implement robust logging, traceability, monitoring, and recoverability for integration failures.
Consider ECC versus S/4HANA differences in APIs, data models, and master-data structures.
Coordinate with SAP BASIS, Security, and Network teams for connectivity, certificates, whitelisting, and technical endpoints.
Preferred Skills
Prior integration experience with procurement / sourcing platforms such as SAP Ariba, Coupa, Jaggaer, or similar products.
Experience integrating S/4HANA Private Cloud or Public Cloud environments.
Knowledge of SAP BTP API Management and event-driven integration / SAP Event Mesh.
Understanding of SAP released APIs and extensibility approaches supporting clean-core architecture.
Deliverables, Ownership & Candidate Profile
Key Deliverables
SAP integration architecture and interface inventory.
Interface design documents and API / IDoc / OData mapping specifications.
SAP configuration, technical developments, and middleware integration flows.
Security and connectivity design inputs.
Unit test results, SIT evidence, and UAT defect-resolution support.
Production deployment, cutover, and stabilization support.
Monitoring, support, and operational handover documentation.
Role Ownership
Own the SAP side of the integration workstream from design through deployment.
Act as the technical bridge between external product teams, SAP functional teams, and enterprise integration teams.
Challenge requirements where standard SAP integration services can simplify the solution.
Ensure interfaces are scalable, secure, supportable, and aligned with target architecture.
Drive issues to closure independently and provide clear status, risks, and dependencies to project leadership.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a hands-on SAP integration specialist who can independently analyze procurement scenarios, identify the correct SAP integration mechanism, design end-to-end interfaces, and work directly with external product teams. The consultant should combine strong SAP technical integration skills with sufficient MM/P2P functional understanding to own the solution rather than operate only as a middleware developer.
